Smart Cables

The MedApps Smart Cable is designed for use with HealthPAL to allow integration with medical monitors that are not Bluetooth enabled, such as glucose meters.

This simple attachment allows the two devices to communicate. Just insert one end of the Smart Cable into HealthPAL's 30-Pin connector port and connect the other end into the accessory meter's data port.

It is not necessary for HealthPAL to be connected to the accessory meter while readings are taken. For instance, glucose readings can be collected over a period of time, stored in the meter's memory and later transferred to HealthPAL when the devices are connected.

After HealthPAL receives the reading from the meter, the data transmission to the central server and electronic health record is still fully automated and wireless.

The MedApps Smart Cable is manufacturer specific; the current version offers compatibility with LifeScan OneTouch Ultra II glucose meters.  Additional Smart Cable versions will be released throughout 2010 to integrate with other glucose meter manufacturers including Abbott, Roche and Bayer; and to integrate with additional modalities such as PT/INR.
